Our Story
My name is Alexandra McKenzie. I have a Master's in Communication Sciences and Disorders and hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. I’m licensed to practice in New York, Florida, and Texas, with over 5,000 hours of clinical experience.
In many ways, I was thrust into the role of a Speech-Language Pathologist long before I ever earned my degrees or certifications. In 2002, my younger brother was diagnosed with bilateral profound deafness. Our family had to grapple with an unexpected challenge — doing countless hours of research to make the right decisions and ensure his success.
I immediately began learning sign language, reading to him, and helping him understand the world without using my voice. After several years, he received cochlear implants and began attending more than 10 hours of hearing and speech therapy each week. I sat in on those sessions — both to support him and to learn how I could help at home.
With me in his corner, he was receiving far more than those 10 hours of therapy. I constantly interacted with him, mirroring what the trained SLPs were doing. Today, he’s a college graduate on his way to earning a doctoral degree — a testament to the power of speech therapy. And while I give full credit to the professionals who guided him, I also proudly claim a small part in his journey.
That early experience transformed into a lifetime passion — one that carried me through college, graduate school, and ultimately into this profession.
I founded The SLP Therapy Lab to offer a more accessible alternative: modern, flexible, and highly personalized speech therapy delivered through telehealth.
This model allows me to ensure that all families and individuals can receive the care they need — when and where they need it.
